Causes of diesel engine oil leaks

Most oil leaks are a result of deterioration of a part of your engine. The most common cause of oil leaks is the oil gasket. Sludge starts to build up if the engine gets damaged or as it starts to degrade over time. This sludge causes the oil gasket to break down and then oil starts to leak.

Another common part that can cause oil leaks is the oil pan. Since the oil pan is on the underside of your truck it is common for it to get hit with rocks, branches and other debris on the road. All of these can leave small dents in the pan which can easily turn into holes where the engine oil can leak from.

If the oil filler cap is not secured properly or missing entirely, parts of your engine can become covered in oil resulting in oil leaks. The oil filter itself can also be the cause of oil leaks due to the filer wearing out, becoming misaligned or coming loose.

It is strongly advised to consult with a professional on these matters before the issue becomes worse or potentially dangerous. We can help to diagnose exactly where the oil leak is coming from and devise an affordable and effective solution to have your diesel engine in smooth operating condition once more.

Common symptoms of a diesel engine oil leak

  • Seeing the oil levels in your dipstick gradually dropping over time.
  • Seeing blue smoke coming from your diesel engine whilst driving.
  • Smelling burning oil coming from your vehicle.
  • Having your low oil level symbol on the dash of your car light up.

Would not recommend. Mark the mechanic is rude and very unprofessional . They do not like people asking questions on prices. I asked him to breakdown the price so i could pass along the information and was hung up on and told to not call back. Customers have the right to know what they are paying for. They plugged into my truck to diagnose it and came up with it needed a clutch fan solenoid. Part was changed out and was a waste of $300. I can’t be wasting time and money on the guessing games.I was NEVER informed about a possible fan clutch. He only told me the solenoid and I still have the paperwork that it was printed on. I would’ve changed the both of them cause I don’t have time to play around. They plugged into my truck to diagnose it and came up with it needed a clutch fan solenoid.
